Gold Daily and Silver Weekly Charts

The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears man's smudge and shares man's smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.

And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs —
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

Gerard Manley Hopkins

As my old friend Phil used to say, see you next year.

Have a Happy New Year.

"Quo vadis, Domine?" (Where are you going, Lord?)

Nazarius did not hear the answer; but to Peter's ears came a sad and sweet voice, which said, --

"If you desert my people, I am going to Rome to be crucified a second time."

The Apostle lay on the ground, his face in the dust, without motion or speech. It seemed to Nazarius that he had fainted or was dead; but he rose at last, seized the staff with trembling hands, and turned without a word toward the seven hills of the city.

The boy, seeing this, repeated as an echo--

"Quo vadis, Domine?"

"To Rome," said the Apostle, in a low voice.

Henryk Sinkewicz, Quo Vadis

And it is.

Have a Happy New Year.

Cole Slaw Recipe, Southern Style

To placate disappointed customers, Chick-fil-A, which is taking coleslaw of their menu next month, has released their seventy year old receipe.

It is pretty much a classic Southern take on cole slaw.   The cabbage must be finely shredded in this.

I am going to try adding a dash of Worcestershire sauce to mine as well.

I add this to home made tartar sauce as well.  I use chopped onions, pickle relish, some mayonaisse and a dash of Worcestershire to taste.  Adding a little lemon juice is a common variant as well, which I do not do since we put it directly on the fish.

"Clever beyond all dreams
is the inventive craft of man,
which may drive him one time or another to good or to evil.
When he honors the laws of the land and and of the righteous gods,
esteemed indeed is his city; but without friends or country is the man
who dares to live by dishonor. Not by my fire,
never to share my thoughts, will be the man who does these things."

Sophocles, Antigone

There were no meaningful deliveries in any of the precious metals yesterday at The Bucket Shop.

For an 'active' month the lid has been clamped down fairly hard on physical gold in the West, and silver after an initial flurry of activity.

Tomorrow will be the last trading day of 2015.

But the markets will be back.  They will always be there in one form or another. But real friendship, and true love, are all the more valuable here as they are rare, and fleeting. But they are the commerce and the measure of all value in the world to come. And so the only real pity is to be poor in them.

Need little, want less, love more.

Have a pleasant evening.
