Stocks and Precious Metals Charts - It Comes In Time of Plague - Non-Farm Payrolls Report on Friday

“The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it.”

George Orwell

"Is this a sign that the Germans are so brutalized in their simplest human feelings, that no chord within them cries out at the sight of such deeds, and that they have sunk into a fatal consciencelessness from which they may never, ever recover?"

Sophie Scholl, The White Rose - Second Leaflet, Munich 1942

"Stupidity has a knack of getting its way; as we should see if we were not always so much wrapped up in ourselves. In this respect our townsfolk were like everybody else, wrapped up in themselves; in other words they were human: they did not believe in plagues."

Albert Camus, The Plague

“Each day we are becoming a creature of splendid glory, or one of unthinkable horror.”

C. S. Lewis

It was a risk on day, with stocks going out on the new highs.

Gold and silver initially rallied as the dollar slumped, but then all moved back towards unchanged, with silver just a bit lower.

There will be a Non-Farm Payrolls report on Friday.

Do not harden your hearts in order to fool yourselves into accepting the unspeakable, no matter how strong the temptation is to suspend your conscience to go along to get along.

For what does it profit a man...

Have a pleasant evening.

Stocks and Precious Metals Charts - And the Love of Most Will Grow Cold

"I see.  So they talk, pray, march, plead, petition and what do they get?  Cossacks, prison, flogging, police, spies, and now, after today, they will be shot. Is this God's will?  Are these His methods?  Make war on your own people?  How long do you think they're going to stand there and let you shoot them?

YOU ask ME who is responsible?  YOU ask?"

Count Witte to Tsar Nicholas II

"The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the dedicated communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction, true and false, no longer exists.”

Hannah Arendt, The Origins of Totalitarianism

“Now we are witnessing a transformation: a true opium of the people is the belief in nothingness after death, the huge solace, the huge comfort of thinking that for our betrayals, our greed, our cowardice, our murders, that we are not going to be judged.”

Czeslaw Milosz, The Discreet Charm of Nihilism

"The queen abides, growing quieter, and steadily a bit weaker, sleeping most of the time with Dolly at her side.  I measure out the hours with patches and syringes, a tender touch of caring and a reassuring word, as I obtain similar consolations from my own angels of the moment, who bring a meal and a helping hand.  There is little fear and no pain.  It is like watching a butterfly becoming.  God is making an angel.

These are His tender mercies."

Jesse, 27 August 2017

Stocks popped, and then flopped a bit into the close.

The markets narrowed again today, with a few of the new era story stocks leading the way, as evidence in the outperformance of the NDX.

Silver got some legs. Gold was held to unchanged.

The dollar continued lower.

The VIX rose.

Tech stocks are in a significant bubble that is continuing to expand.

It will break, badly.

When did we come to be so selfish, so self-centered, so willful, like spoiled children.

How did our leaders come to be so unworthy, so dishonorable, shameless, and corrupt.

And so many follow their example, and are encouraged by it, to harden their heart, and serve the darkness.

It is not too late to be sorry for our pride and hatred and abusiveness, and seek forgiveness. But the time grows short.

Today is the third anniversary of the passing of the queen.

Have a pleasant evening.

Stocks and Precious Metals Charts - BuckBusters

"The money was all appropriated for the top in the hopes that it would trickle down to the needy. Mr. Hoover was an engineer. He knew that water trickled down. Put it uphill and let it go and it will reach the driest little spot. But he didn't know that money trickled up. Give it to the people at the bottom and the people at the top will have it before night anyhow. But it will at least have passed through some poor fellow’s hands."

Will Rogers, 5 December 1932

"It is no exaggeration to say that since the 1980s, much of the global financial sector has become criminalised, creating an industry culture that tolerates or even encourages systematic fraud."

Charles H. Ferguson

"Quantitative easing is a gigantic confidence trick. It was promised that it would yield new investment. It has not. It was promised that it would 'pump money into the economy'. It has not. It was also feared that printing money would lead to hyper-inflation. It has not, for the simple reason that no one gets to spend the money. It is a bookkeeping transaction between a central bank and a commercial bank. It means nothing as long as banks are told to build up their reserves (or drive up the speculative value of financial paper assets)."

Simon Jenkins

"We so easily forget. Once the cry of so-called prosperity is heard in the land, we all become so stampeded by the spirit of the god Mammon, that we cannot serve the dictates of social conscience. We are here to serve notice that the economic order is the invention of man; and that it cannot dominate certain eternal principles of justice and of God. The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little."

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

“Evil when we are in its power is not felt as evil, but as a necessity, or even a duty."

Simone Weil

Stocks were pushing higher today, on hopes for Fed  dovishness (e.g. moneyprinting) as far as the eye can see.  And within a fiscal regime that guides most of the money, if not all of it, to the top one percent.

The Dollar moved loved, skidding down towards the 92 handle.

Gold and silver rallied.

The unsustainable will not be sustained, except through ever-increasing force and fraud.

Need little, want less, love more.

For those who abide in love abide in God, and God in them.

Have a pleasant weekend.
