Stocks and Precious Metals Charts - Pride Changed Angels Into Devils

"It was pride that changed angels into devils; and it is humility that makes men angels. There never has been, and never can be, and there never shall be any sin without pride.

Man’s maker became man that He, Ruler of the stars, might nurse at His mother’s breast; that the Bread itself might hunger, the Fountain thirst, the Light sleep, the Way be tired on its journey; that Truth might be accused of false witness, that the Teacher be beaten with whips, the Foundation of creation be suspended on the cross; that Strength itself might grow weak; that the Healer might be wounded; and that Life itself might die to live again."

Augustine of Hippo

"Children, let us love one another, because love is from God.  Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.  Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.  God’s love was revealed to us in this way: God sent his only-begotten Son into the world so that we might have life through him.  This is what love is: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as forgiveness for our sins...

God abides in those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and they abide in God.  We have come to know and to believe in the love that God has for us.  God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God in him."

1 John 4:7-16

"What does love look like?   It has the hands to help others.   It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy.   It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men.   Do not grieve or complain that you were born in a time when you can no longer see God in the flesh.   He did not in fact take this privilege from you.  As He says: ‘Whatever you have done to the least of these, you did to me.’

Believe, so that you may understand.  You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you."

Augustine of Hippo

Today is the memorial of St. Augustine of Hippo, one of most influential theologians of the early Church.

Nvidia announced a beat on its numbers after the bell, but the futures markets gyrated and the stock moved lower.

Smells like teen spirit.

Stocks moved lower today, with tech leading the tide receding.

Gold and silver were hit with price selling, although gold was able to bounce back a bit more.

The Dollar moved higher.

Wash and rinse.  Repeat.

How far removed from reality is the public discourse in the US becoming?

A climate of continuous war is an effective excuse to lead the truth down a blind alley and strangle it, to approving nods of the purported guardians of freedom of speech.

Have a pleasant evening.

Stocks and Precious Metals Charts - Behold Your Mothers

"Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, accompanied by his disciples and a large crowd.  As he drew near to the gate of the town, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his widowed mother.  A large group of people from the town accompanied her.

When the Lord saw her, he was filled with compassion, and he said to her, 'Do not weep.'  After this, he came forward and touched the bier, and the bearers halted.  Then he said, 'Young man, I say to you, arise!'  The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.

Fear seized all who were present, and they glorified God, saying, 'A great prophet has risen among us,' and 'God has visited his people.'  The news of what he had done spread throughout Judea and the surrounding region."

Luke 7:11-17

"At first reading, the story of my mother's life seems like little more than a tragedy. However, it is much more than that. Her story reveals the stark realities of growing up poor. All across Appalachia, there are thousands of women just like my mother working, striving, struggling, just to exist. So many people in Appalachia have broken minds and broken bodies and broken hearts, and they do nothing more than survive because that's all they can do.  Politicians and their crony-capitalist donors have a vested interest in keeping them poor."

Joshua Wilkey, My Mother Wasn't White Trash

"Greedy sociopaths would rather be extremely rich in a suffering nation than modestly rich in a successful nation. The greater the misery, the greater their power, since power is the difference in wealth and influence between one person and another.

Instead of viewing government as a failure, consider the possibility that it is a success. The question we need to ask is: "what is government actually trying to accomplish?"

Jesse, Romney Speaking Privately to Wealthy Donors, 18 September 2012

“Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me. Weep for yourselves and your children."

Luke 23:28

Stocks were wobbling again today, with mixed results.

VIX remains complacent relatively speaking.

The Dollar fell.

Gold and silver rose higher, but are still struggling with resistance.

While the eyes of Wall Street are focused internally and on the Fed, the rest of the world watches as the merry pranksters of the State Department continue to provoke and promote unrest around the world.

I am very concerned about the madness that seems to be gripping the powers-that-be in the Ukraine and Israel, and some parts of Europe.

Behold your mothers, and their broken hearts.

The madness serves none but itself.

 Have a pleasant evening.

Stocks and Precious Metals Charts - Many, Falling Away

"As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him. Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, 'Are you also going to leave?' Simon Peter replied, 'Master, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. We believe, and we are convinced, that you are the Holy One of God.'”

John 6:66-69

"A short while later someone else saw him and said, 'You too are one of them.'  Peter answered, 'My friend, I am not.'  About an hour later, still another one insisted, 'I'm sure this man too was with him, for he also is a Galilean.'  But Peter said, 'My friend, I do not know what you are talking about.'

Just as he was saying this, the cock crowed, and the Lord turned and looked at Peter.  And Peter remembered the words of the Lord, how he had said, 'Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.'  And Peter went out, and wept bitterly."

Luke 22:58-62

“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to sift all of you like wheat.  But I have prayed that your own faith may not fail. And once you have returned to the faith, you must strengthen your brothers.”

Luke 22:31-32

"Behold, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”

Matthew 28:21

A whiff of reality wafted through the equity markets today, as the dose of dovish joy delivered by the Fed's Dr. Feelgood began to wear thin.

VIX still remains in the nominally complacent level, at least by this year's experience.

The Dollar chopped a little higher.

Gold finished up a bit as well, moving with the Dollar in a risk adjustment.

Silver ran with equities, but managed to hold it's level finishing unchanged.

There was a military exchange between Hezbollah and the IDF over the weekend.

The reported results in the Western media were heavily flavored by the fog of war.

Read most of the accounts in the corporate media with a very critical eye.

It was an exchange, and more a prelude, as each side felt the other out.

And so it goes in the Ukraine, as the Kursk salient grinds down.

I suspect the bear is waiting to close its jaws, as it is occupied on more serious business elsewhere.

Let's see what happens.

Personally I think this military action is deplorable and unnecessary on all sides, and makes no sense excepting for the venality and egos of some leaders and their cronies, who are not particularly interested in the well being of their public.

But this is how war often is.  For the benefit of a few, at the often extreme expense of the many.

Have a pleasant evening.

Stocks and Precious Metals Charts - Dry Bones

"The hand of the Lord came upon me.  His Spirit took me up and set me in the center of a valley that was full of bones.  He led me through the valley, and I saw there were many bones that were very dry.  The Lord said, 'Son of man, can these bones live again?'  I answered, 'O Lord, only You know.'  He answered, 'Speak in My name over these bones.  Say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the Word of the Lord.’'  The Lord God says to these bones: ‘I will breath on you, and you will come back to life.  I will join you together, make flesh grow back, cover you with skin, and put breath in you to make you come to life.  Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”

Ezekiel 37:1-6

"When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together and, to test him, a scholar of the law asked this question, 'Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?' Jesus said, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Everything in the Law and the Prophets depends on these two commandments.'”

Matthew 22:34-40

"The rich man replied, ‘No, Father Abraham.  But if someone comes back to them from the dead, then they will repent of their sins and turn to God.’  But Abraham said, ‘If they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded, even if someone rises from the dead.’”

Luke 16:31

"And Jesus said, 'Did I not say that if you have faith you will see the glory of God?' And so they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised his eyes and said, 'Father, I thank you for hearing me. I know that you always hear me, but I say this for the sake of the people, so that they may believe that it was you who sent me.' When he had said this, he cried out in a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come forth.'"

John 11:40=43

Jay Powell delivered a dovish nod in his speech from Jackson Hole this morning, as one might have expected.

Stocks rallied.

Gold and silver rallied.

VIX fell.

The Dollar fell 82 cents back down to the 100 level.

Now Wall Street can occupy itself with trying to unwrap either a 25 or 50 basis point rate cut for the September meeting.

Fifty is not out of the question because I don't think the Fed will want to spread a cut closer to the November Presidential election.

Forgotten for now is the boiling geopolitical tension in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

What will the Lord do, to breathe life back into the dry bones of these hardened hearts.

Have a pleasant weekend.
